Alanah Juezan

Alanah Juezan - Alanah was born to a young couple married in their mid-20's. Her father was 30 years old when she arrived. Dexter wanted to name his first child Alanah. The name came 10 years before she was conceived as if the stork has spoken to Dexter in his dreams.

As a young girl, Alanah did not participate in any sports. Her parents encouraged her to try different activities but nothing seems to stick. Traveling abroad seems to be the life style that they chose for their first born. By the time she was 7 years old, Alanah has been to Italy, France, Spain, Croatia and the Philippines. By the time she was 10 years old, she has seen more countries than most girl at her age.   She was a B average student until she discovered jiu jitsu. Her uncle Vince was in Special Forces and an avid martial artist. He spent most of his time deployed over seas but when he was home, he always brought some kind of weapons for Alanah.

It wasn’t until one day when Dexter drove Alanah home from school and saw the red neon sign “Gracie Barra” in Irvine California. She took her first lesson in the “gentle art” and that all was it. And it is because of her laser focus and love for jiu-jitsu that she has become a straight A student.  She started when she was almost 12 years old. Alanah started competing after only 6 months of training. When ever she would dominate in her division, Professor Rod would promote her to the next belt level. Then she would have a piece of humble pie and learn what losing was like again. But it did not take long before she would dominate again. Now, at 14, she has in just over 2 years gone from a very timid white belt, to an orange belt fighting machine. And soon to move on to the next belt. Due to the limited practitioners in her division, she competes with girls that are much older, larger and higher rank. That did not seem to bother her.

Besides spending 5-6 days a week on the mat, she helps teach the kid's and women's class and do volunteer work throughout her community. It is our honor to introduce Alanah Juezan as our Agent of Change.
