Fernanda Mello

Fernanda Mello

Fernanda Mello - Fernanda was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the 12th largest city on earth. It is the most populous city in Brazil, the Americas, and in the Southern Hemisphere. She grew up on a farm in the outskirts of the city with her parents and her two sisters. She is the youngest of the three girls.

Her father was a trained engineer but his love for horses persuaded him to move away from Sao Paulo and leave to live on a farm to follow his passion. As a young child, she had a typical farm life childhood. She was surrounded with animals and acres of fruit trees. She spent her time playing outside and tending to all the animals. At 16. she discovered surfing and that was it. She fell in love with the ocean on her first glide. Every weekend she would hitch a ride with her friends to drive two hours to the nearest beach. They would spend the entire day playing in the ocean until dark. It was then, that the surfer in her was born. She received her degree in nutrition and worked for eight years as a nutritionist in Sao Paulo. After those eight years, she decided it was time to move to sunny Southern California in search of waves, sunshine, and new experiences. While she was living there, she found her second passion for cooking and baking. This eventually led her to create her own blog, where she currently shares her love for food and other health related tips. At the same time, she fell in love with her current husband who happened to be a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It seemed natural for her to step on the mat and try the "Gentle Art". Everything she does she commits 100% and she gives it her all. Together, they both travel the globe in hopes of spreading their passion for jiu-jitsu, nutrition and mindful living. Kekoa Collective is honored to introduce Fernanda Mello as our Agent of Change. You can discover more about Mello by following her on her Nutrition Blog and Instagram.

What is it that you want to do when you grow up?

Have my own coffee shop with a bunch of good food and a community kitchen attached so I can teach people how to cook and also host Chefs.

Tell us one thing we don’t know about but we should:

I'm really an outgoing person, but deep inside I am really shy and can get a red face in a second.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be and why?

A lot of things, I guess. But mostly how power is managed in all kinds of societies. It's sad, but it's all related to power. Power creates corruption in all ways. It’s a utopian mindset to think we could change the political system and with all the injustices, but I believe in small movements within our community. Educate people how to manage their trash, how to eat, how to treat nature etc.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?Perfect happiness?

I don't really think that exists... The perfect happiness would still consist of ups and downs, both indispensable to understand the value of life. Living with Self-acceptance, never losing the meaning of simple things, and being able to hang out with my loved ones.

What is your greatest fear?

Which historical figure do you most identify with?

Hard question. I don't think I have one.

Which living person do you most admire?

My dog… just kidding (I don't even have a dog!) Not sure if I have only one though... My grandmother, my mother, my husband, and one famous writer that I am a huge fan, Michael Polan.

What do you like most about yourself?

I am not afraid to change or try new things. Actually, to be honest, a lot of times I am afraid, but I still go for it.

What is the trait you most DISLIKE in yourself?

Too intense, too emotional.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Surf Boards and more surfboards

What is your greatest regret?

I have no regrets…

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Have more patience.

If you were to die and come back as another person or thing, what do you think it would be?

An intelligent good-looking DUDE.

What is your most treasured possessions?

Love from the people I've chosen to be with and my old pictures.

Where would you like to live if you could live anywhere in the world?

New Zealand

What is your ideal occupation?

Cooking healthy and tasty food.

Who are your heroes in real life?

Can't define.

What is your life motto?

If your dreams don’t scare you, they are not big enough.

List 3 things you cannot live without?

Food, love, and nature.

What’s the greatest piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Every mistake or hard time will make you better and stronger, don't be afraid to pass through it.

What do you consider your greatest personal failure?

To actually believe that I could've changed a few people.

Many thanks to my husband who always supports me unconditionally, keeps me feeling safe, and empowers me to believe in my dreams. To my closest friends that are always here to share my thoughts and make me laugh even in the worst of times... And last but not least, my mom, my sisters, and my family that are my roots and inspiration in life.
