JUDO GI KIDS - MOVE MINDFULLY
Judo, created by Jigoro Kano in Japan in the late 19th century, laid the groundwork for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu's origins. Kano Sensei developed Judo as a holistic martial art emphasizing throws, joint locks, and groundwork, with a focus on efficiency and leverage.
In a 1922 excerpt, Kano Sensei connected the principles of Judo to society at large, stating,
"Assisting in the continued development of one's community can be classified as good...ongoing advancement of community and society is achieved through the concepts of 'Sojo-Sojo' (help one another; yield to one another) or 'Jita-Kyoei' (mutual benefit). In this sense, Sojo-Sojo and Jita-Kyoei are also part of the greater good. This is the fundamental wisdom of Judo."1
